Making Icing Sugar Cookies

I made up a huge batch of sugar cookies for Levi's class, but hadn't decorated them yet, because the boys wanted to help. I went back and forth with myself, knowing if they helped, the decorations wouldn't be perfect. But then I told myself that this is all for the kids anyway, so if they want to have fun decorating, let them! Who cares if it looks perfect, they will have fun, and it will all still taste great.

So I made up another small batch of cookies yesterday after picking up the kids from school (so they would have some to eat here at home also). They loved helping me with the cookie cutters, but they REALLY loved decorating with the icing. They accidently dropped a couple of cookies, and were then later allowed to eat the broken ones. They had so much fun, and I had a blast helping them and watching their smiling faces, and hearing their laughter at their own masterpieces. It was a priceless moment!

Christmas Cookies: Funny!

Christmas Cookies

Light oven, get bowl, spoons and ingredients, grease pan, crack nuts, remove 10 blocks, seven toy autos and one wad of chewing gum from kitchen table.

Measure two cups of flour, remove Johnny’s hands from flour, wash flour off him, measure one more cup of flour to replace flour on floor.

Put flour, baking powder and salt in sifter.  Answer doorbell.  Return to kitchen.  Remove Johnny’s hands from bowl.  Wash Johnny.  Answer phone.  Return.  Remove quarter-inch salt from greased pans, grease more pans.  Look for Johnny.  Answer phone.

Return to kitchen and find Johnny.  Remove his hands from bowl.  Wash shortening, etc., etc., off him.  Take up greased pan and pick out shells in it.  Head for Johnny who flees, knocking bowl off table.

Wash kitchen floor.  Wash table.  Wash kitchen walls.  Wash dishes.  Wash Johnny.  Call baker.  Lie down!

Remember, your family and friends are what’s important, not a disaster of a cake or batch of cookies.  Enjoy life; don’t fight it.

Update:

Stephen got a deer!!!! Yea!!!! Deer meat, welcome to my freezer!!! :-)

The boys did good in their basketball games. Seth scored his teams only point, within the last few minutes of the game. You'd have never known they lost, every one of them were elated that they actually scored! LOL!

Levi's team won their first game, but was then tired for the second game and lost it. Oh well. They had fun.

Basketball and hunting...

The boys both have their first basketball games tomorrow, both at 11:00am, in totally different towns! Geesh! So I'll have to take Seth to his first game, and Stephen will have to take Levi to his. Levi also has another game tomorrow at 2pm (at least I'll get to see him play that one).

Sunday Stephen is going hunting again. So it's up to me to take care of everything while he's gone again. I really need a vacation...
